With the vision "Community benefit as the starting point for all activities," Dược Hậu Giang (DHG Pharma), from its early days of establishment, has been committed to becoming a pharmaceutical company with strong humanistic values, deeply focused on community healthcare. In 2002, DHG Pharma established the Volunteer Doctors Team and the "Prescription for community" project, spreading love far and wide. The project has been implemented across various locations from the south to the north, from the mainland to remote islands, and even expanded to neighboring countries like Laos and Cambodia. To date, over 1,000,000 people have benefited from free medical check-ups and medicine distribution, including 22,000 people in Cambodia and Laos.

Part 1

Starting background of the project

The culture of gratitude through community activities has become an enduring story that shapes the identity of Dược Hậu Giang (DHG Pharma). Regardless of the era, DHG Pharma has maintained its tradition of placing social responsibility and community health at the forefront, reflecting the distinctive character of the Mekong Delta – compassionate, righteous, and generous.

On February 27, 2002, the Volunteer Doctors Team was established through a proposal and funding by DHG Pharma under the direction of the Department of Health and the Can Tho Provincial Youth Union.

The team often travels to remote rural areas, former resistance zones, and ethnic minority regions, not only in the Mekong Delta but also in Central Vietnam and the Central Highlands. Wherever there are the poor or areas affected by natural disasters, the team arranges visits. Most team members volunteer on Saturdays and Sundays. Doctors, nurses, and healthcare workers provide medical examinations and prescribed treatments, while the DHG Pharma team distributes medicine and advises the locals on the proper use of the medication through the "Prescription for community" project.

The "Prescription for Community" project by DHG Pharma was established to provide essential medicines and healthcare services to communities and areas in need. The project focuses on improving public health, supporting local healthcare systems by ensuring access to necessary treatments and promoting health education.

DHG Pharma's "Prescription for Community" project is like a mobile healthcare facility, offering comprehensive healthcare to the community. The team of doctors from major hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, with various specialties, directly examines local residents. In addition, DHG Pharma sets up specialized clinics at local sites, offering services such as ultrasound, ECG, blood sugar tests, dental checkups, eye exams, etc., to make healthcare services more accessible.

To ensure the program's highest effectiveness, DHG Pharma dedicates about a month for preparation before organizing each event. This includes surveying the actual location, working with local authorities, collecting health data from the area, and collaborating with medical centers to build an appropriate list of medications. The goal is to select the right medicines and equipment that match the local health issues, ensuring the program best meets the community's healthcare needs.

Throughout the medical examination process, DHG Pharma places a strong emphasis on providing health advice to the residents through one-on-one consultations with experts and doctors. In addition to guiding them on proper medication usage and dosage as prescribed by the doctor, the medical team also offers valuable advice on nutrition, how to control blood pressure, and how to prevent health issues like strokes. Not only do individuals who are directly examined receive these consultations, but they can also share the information with their family members and friends. All these activities aim to raise awareness and provide essential health knowledge to the people, especially in rural and remote areas, helping them lead healthier and more peaceful lives.

With a network of over 5,000 doctors from Alobacsi, DHG Pharma leverages this valuable resource to continue providing healthcare even after the program ends. We have established a hotline to offer a "solid shoulder" for people in remote areas, providing timely support and answering any health-related questions. Our project does not stop at healthcare during the program; it also maintains ongoing support to ensure the people continue to feel secure and receive continuous, sustainable medical care.

Not only do the underprivileged benefit from specialized medical services and free medicine, but the local medical team also has the opportunity to improve their skills by interacting with highly specialized doctors during the program. Through support from top doctors and experts in various fields, local healthcare staff not only gain knowledge but also participate directly in the examination process, enhancing their practical skills. This helps improve the quality of medical services for the community and also contributes to raising the professional level of local medical staff, creating long-lasting and sustainable impacts on public healthcare.

Implementation - Scope - Cost of the project

DHG Pharma prepares the entire set of essential medicines for the medical examination and distribution program based on the practical needs and common health issues of the community. This includes a full range of antibiotics, anti-inflammatory, pain relievers, fever reducers, and medications for various conditions (cardiovascular, diabetes, musculoskeletal, digestive, respiratory…), as well as healthcare products that meet JAPAN/EU-GMP standards.

With its core value "Putting community benefits at the heart of all activities," DHG Pharma consistently maintains and embodies this philosophy throughout its long journey of development. The "Prescription for Community" project is a living testament to this enduring value, affirming DHG Pharma's strong commitment to public health care over the years. At the beginning of each year, DHG Pharma allocates a separate budget to ensure this activity is continuously sustained, developed, and brings tangible benefits to the community. Every year, on February 27 – Vietnam Doctors' Day, DHG Pharma donates a symbolic plaque in partnership with the Department of Health of Can Tho City, demonstrating their deep commitment to supporting community health programs. This marks the foundation for the project to endure for over 22 years and will continue to grow alongside DHG Pharma's 50-year journey.

Each program organized by DHG Pharma receives enthusiastic support and collaboration from the Department of Health, local healthcare centers, and relevant government agencies, ensuring the program's full execution and wide-reaching impact across various regions. Currently, our project has reached all 63 provinces, delivering quality medicines to communities in need, especially in areas where healthcare access remains limited. However, our journey does not end here. With the mission "For a healthier, more beautiful life," we will continue to extend our efforts to new regions, where every healthy smile will motivate us to keep contributing, spreading love and hope to every corner of the country.

The implementation process of the program is harmonized with coordinated efforts from various parties: the Department of Health, hospitals and healthcare centers, alongside DHG Pharma's involvement. Each unit plays an essential role, carrying its own specific mission, but the common thread is "working with all our hearts." It is this dedication that creates a strong connection, ensuring every DHG Pharma medicine is part of the prescription. Every step and every action of all involved parties aims toward a shared goal: caring for and protecting public health.

Cost

Every year, DHG Pharma allocates approximately 10 billion VND for health care and consultation programs for the public, such as medical examination and medicine distribution activities, community workshops, and social welfare programs.
