The "BIDV Run - Warm Tet for the Poor and For the Green Life" is an annual event organized by BIDV since 2019. The run is conducted in a convertible format, where the running achievements of participants are specifically converted into corresponding monetary amounts. Based on this figure, BIDV allocates a budget to implement Social Welfare activities - For a Green Life, thereby aiming at sustainable development. After 5 years of implementation, the program has spread widely, attracting a total of more than 300,000 participants. It has contributed to the formation of a sports movement promoting health among BIDV staff, the community, and customers. The program stands out in directly implementing and mobilizing the public to participate in social welfare sponsorship activities, with effective impacts on millions of people as well as the living environment.

Part 1

Starting background of the project/
initiative

Throughout the process of building and developing the country, the Party and the Government have always been concerned about and emphasized the development of physical education and sports in the country. Along with the trend of modern life development, people's awareness of the importance of physical exercise for health is increasing, especially the desire to participate in community fitness activities. Capturing this trend, BIDV has pioneered the launch and organization of the Movement Running Tournament, recording achievements online in the banking industry. It integrates sports activities with volunteer activities to encourage people to actively participate in physical fitness and spread the spirit of community sharing. In addition, the sports movement at BIDV has also been strongly developed. BIDV has implemented various competitions and sports festivals to encourage and spread the spirit of sports training throughout the system. In 2019, in response to the Prime Minister's call for a Strategy for the Development of Physical Education and Sports in Vietnam, BIDV launched the BIDV Smile Run as part of the Service Development Project, aiming to promote the spirit of innovation, creativity, and enthusiastic labor of the staff. Following this success, BIDV annually implements running programs such as the Warm Tet Run for the Poor - For Beloved Central Vietnam, BIDVRUN - For Green Life in 2022, 2023, and more. Since then, BIDVRUN has become a distinctive mark of the BIDV sports movement in particular and the community sports movement in general, contributing to spreading the spirit of sports training. It also encourages individuals to take action for the social community, protect the green living environment, and contribute to the sustainable development and prosperity of Vietnam.

Goals and motivation for implementation of the project

OBJECTIVE:

The BIDVRUN race is developed and organized by BIDV with the desire to enhance community sports movements, encourage physical training, and improve health. At the same time, BIDVRUN also aims to connect workers, customers, and the public to join hands in community actions. Based on the athletes' running achievements, BIDV commits to converting the running achievements of athletes into expenses for implementing practical social welfare programs. Currently, the BIDV Run race has become an annual activity organized by BIDV twice a year with the following main objectives:

1. BIDV Run Race - Warm Tet for the Poor: Contribute efforts to the annual Tet gift program for poor compatriots of BIDV during the Lunar New Year.

2. BIDV Run Race - For Green Life: Contribute efforts to the social welfare sponsorship program For Green Life aimed at sustainable development by BIDV, including: Planting 1 million green trees, Building a chain of community cultural houses to avoid flooding, Donating fresh water tanks to people in areas affected by natural disasters and saline intrusion.

MOTIVATION
In its role as the leading national bank, alongside carrying out financial and monetary tasks to serve the country's economic development programs, BIDV always takes the lead in community actions. Therefore, fulfilling social responsibilities for the community is always one of BIDV's four missions, which the leadership and employees of BIDV care about and devote much effort and resources to.
BIDV has allocated funds from the bank's activities and mobilized employees to contribute to the implementation of practical social welfare programs (ASXH). The enterprise aims to contribute to the development of the social community, participate in eliminating hunger and reducing poverty, collaborate in building new projects, renovate and upgrade infrastructure in disadvantaged areas, and enhance the quality of education, training, and healthcare for people's lives. Furthermore, the development of the voluntary sports movement for the community is also a method for BIDV to continue building and nurturing the cultural values of the enterprise, such as the humanitarian spirit for the community.

Part 3

Activities and scope of implementation

The main content of the BIDV Run - Warm Tet for the Poor and For Green Life race consists of two activities:
- A running sports movement integrated with technology: Utilizing the website platform or mobile application to record the achievements of the runners, track, and plan training, and participate in the running community.
- Mobilizing people to participate in running for the community: After converting running achievements into corresponding amounts, BIDV sponsors the expenses for social welfare programs - For Green Life - For sustainable development, including: Planting 1 million green trees, Building a chain of community cultural houses to prevent flooding, giving Tet gifts to poor compatriots, and donating fresh water tanks to people affected by natural disasters and saline intrusion.

In terms of the scope of implementation, the BIDV Run Race has mobilized 28,000 officials within the BIDV system to participate, concurrently connecting the participation of athletes both inside and outside the country. Over 5 years of implementation, the BIDV Run Race - Warm Tet for the Poor, For Green Life has attracted 300,000 participants within Vietnam and from countries such as Sudan, Japan, Australia, etc.

For charity activities related to social welfare programs, BIDV has implemented them nationwide, especially in remote, difficult, border, and island areas, which are often heavily affected by floods, salinity intrusion, severe cold, and harmful cold waves. The program particularly aims to assist impoverished people, poor patients, and socially disadvantaged groups, providing them with direct material and spiritual support, helping them address immediate difficulties, and stabilizing their lives.

Part 4

Project innovation/ invention

The most significant initiative and meaning of "BIDV Run - Warm Tet for the Poor and For Green Life" can be described as the application of technology to develop a community sports movement, combined with the goal of sustainable development.

In practice, the annual activity of gifting Tet presents to the poor has been a meaningful initiative continuously carried out by BIDV for many years. However, this activity was implemented as a separate effort by BIDV and did not effectively convey its humanitarian significance to the community. Meanwhile, at BIDV, various sports activities occur regularly, helping employees improve their health and foster stronger bonds. From this context, BIDV came up with the initiative to organize an online charity run utilizing technology platforms, aiming to mobilize employees, customers, the public, and the community to support the impoverished and social welfare activities through participating in the run.

The solution of organizing a charity run combined with technology platforms brings about numerous outstanding advantages, including:
1. Through participating in the run, individuals contribute achievements that are converted into supportive gifts for Tet, such as providing for those in difficult circumstances, building community flood-resistant houses, etc.
2. As an achievement-based sports event, it utilizes modern technology platforms, aligning with the trend of integrating technology into all aspects of life.
3. It fosters business activities, expanding the bank's customer base. It transforms run participants into customers using BIDV's products and services through various promotional programs and incentives.

Part 5

Implementation and cost

The "Warm Tet for the Poor" run was first implemented in November 2019 on an external partner's website platform (Irace). By 2020, this run was hosted on the BIDVRUN website and application developed and operated by BIDV.

In 2021, due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, BIDV initiated a photo contest titled "Warm Tet for the Poor – Strong Health to Share" to share beautiful images of sports training and pandemic prevention. In 2022, the "Warm Tet for the Poor" run continued to be organized and attracted more than 53,000 participants.

Following this success, the "BIDVRUN - For Green Life" run is held annually in April, to convert achievements to contribute to social welfare activities such as tree planting and providing clean water.

After 5 years of implementation, the BIDV Run events have achieved a total distance of 16 million km run, equivalent to 60 billion VND contributed to social welfare programs. Specifically:
1. One Million Trees Planting Program (2021-2026): To date, BIDV has planted 330,000 trees at a cost of nearly 10 billion VND.
2. Building a chain of community cultural houses to prevent floods in Central provinces with a total cost of 32.5 billion VND.
3. Providing freshwater tanks: BIDV has donated nearly 14,000 freshwater tanks and 39 water purifiers to people affected by saline intrusion. The total amount spent is nearly 28 billion VND.
4. Tet gifts for the poor: Nearly 60,000 Tet gifts, equivalent to 20 billion VND converted from BIDV Run, have been sent to the poor nationwide.

Part 7

Model expandation potential

BIDV has been a pioneering entity in researching, constructing, and operating community running events, mobilizing its employees, families, the public, and customers to actively participate in running, contributing their efforts and joining hands with BIDV in sharing with those facing difficulties. It is anticipated that the running events utilizing the BIDVRUN application platform will continue to be implemented in the coming years. This includes both system-wide events (1-2 programs annually, with a scale of 50,000 - 70,000 participants) and branch-level events (10-15 programs annually, with a scale of 500 - 1,000 participants).

From BIDV's running event model, various community running movements have been deployed by different organizations to further develop the community sports movement, nurture both amateur and professional sports talents, and spread the humanitarian significance of running.

Especially with the experience of organizing the BIDV Run seasons, BIDV has also recognized that public engagement and community participation in volunteer activities combined with community sports activities can continue to be developed and expanded in various more diverse and multifaceted forms. This model can extend beyond just running, incorporating various sports such as cycling, swimming, and more. This approach encourages a broad participation of people, not only enhancing their mental and physical well-being but also amplifying humanitarian values more effectively.
