The "Reading Culture Journey in Remote Areas - Islands - Borders" is a major campaign of Trí Tuệ Việt Nam, a community-based educational charity project under the Sống Tử Tế community, running from September 11, 2024, to December 31, 2024. This campaign is implemented as a volunteer-based initiative combined with sustainable education (not just giving and receiving, but also inspiring the spirit of self-learning and lifelong learning culture). The project follows a method of creating a community of elite readers, based on three core values: Morality - Intelligence - Willpower. Activities include fostering a reading culture among teachers, promoting family literacy, encouraging the establishment of community libraries nationwide, and the project has sparked a revolution in spreading Reading Culture across all provinces and cities in the country.
Part 1
Starting background of the project
For students in remote areas, reading is often the last thing on their minds, as families believe "if the children go to school, there will be no rice to eat; it's better for them to stay home and help the family." The journey to school is already so difficult that reading books is something few consider.
Trí Tuệ Việt Nam, a community-based educational charity project under the Sống Tử Tế community, visited Mường Sại Primary School in Quỳnh Nhai district, Sơn La province. Mr. Ngọc Anh, the school's vice principal, shared that the school has no books for students, except for 20 old children's newspapers. Mường Sại Primary School is just one of thousands of small and large schools in remote areas, islands, and border regions. Many students, families, and communities living in these far-flung corners of the country have limited access to books and proper knowledge.
The Reading Culture Journey is the 4th year of the Trí Tuệ Việt Nam project, which stems from these educational volunteer trips. The project focuses on teachers and students, as happy teachers will change the world. Trí Tuệ Việt Nam aims to build a Sống Tử Tế community with the dream that, in 20 years, a generation will emerge that dares to live with dedication and kindness.
Part 2
Project innovation/ invention
Trí Tuệ Việt Nam has developed a set of formulas for building, operating, and transferring educational volunteer projects to the community, applying special methods. The application of these methods helps Trí Tuệ Việt Nam replicate the volunteer-education approach more easily, encouraging and expanding the community's involvement in volunteer work:
- The thought process of summarizing books: Building teams based on the teachings of Buddha, Mr. Trần Việt Quân, and historical lessons in team management.
- Building the 3 Roots Library Model (Ethics, Wisdom, Willpower): Five levels of reading applied in schools, families, and communities.
- Creating a learning culture: Implementing simple, effective projects with basic formulas known as "Gen."
Additionally, Trí Tuệ Việt Nam is also leading a cultural revolution in reading with the following characteristics:
- Reading materials that promote transformation in Ethics, Wisdom, and Willpower.
- Reading with a cultural attitude: complete, wise, not rushing to judge, criticize, or dismiss, but always carefully considering.
- Practicing, testing, and reflecting on what one reads in life and work.
- Spreading and lighting the torch for those who are destined to serve education.

Part 3
Goals and vision of the project
- Building the 3 Roots (Ethics - Wisdom - Willpower) education model into each school through the Reading Culture program.
- Creating a healthy, refined reading ecosystem for everyone.
Part 4
Implementation - Scope - Cost of the project
The Reading Culture Journey in the Highlands - Islands - Border Areas is the 4th year project of Trí Tuệ Việt Nam, running from September 11, 2024 to December 31, 2024, across Vietnam.
The project is divided into several implementation phases:
Phase 1 (Sept 20 - Oct 2): Inspire Reading Culture through organizing programs in the Highlands, Islands, and Border areas.
Phase 2 (Sept 21 - Oct 3): Open registration for two forms:
- School-based registration (at least 25% of teachers and 50% of school leadership must register to participate)
- Individual registration
Phase 3 (Oct 4 - Oct 6): Review registration applications:
- Group approval
- Each teacher from remote areas will receive a book titled "The Teacher's Profession" before the official course begins, once their registration is confirmed.
Phase 4 (Oct 6 - Nov 8): Online training via Zoom for one month:
- Fixed Zoom sessions every Tuesday and Sunday evening (7:30 PM - 9:30 PM)
- Optional Zoom session on Friday evenings (7:30 PM - 9:30 PM)
Phase 5 (Nov 15 - Dec 15): Visit qualifying schools:
- Travel to remote areas to conduct live programs at eligible schools
- Donate the Tinh Hoa Book Cabinet and ignite the Reading Culture.
Cost
The project implementation cost ranges from 900,000,000 VND to 1,300,000,000 VND. Additionally, the project calls for funding to sustain the operation of future charity initiatives, which could total up to 2,000,000,000 VND (to maintain operations for 3-5 months after the journey in 2025).
Part 5
Achievements
Bringing the Culture of Reading to remote areas, islands, and border regions, schools, families, and communities.
Inspiring the community deeply about the idea that learning is a lifelong mission, where each person is an education warrior, with two main duties: to self-educate and to serve education.
Part 6
Model expansion potential
- Trí Tuệ Việt Nam has Gen codes, which are formulas for thinking and operating community education projects.
- It also has a team of Reading Culture Leaders – individuals ready to organize and launch reading programs and movements in local areas.
- The project is spread across the school system and families.
