Understanding that investing in education is investing in development, Agribank (Vietnam Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development) has implemented the project "More Knowledge, Less Poverty," which donates bookshelves and educational equipment to primary and secondary schools in rural and remote areas. The initiative aims to provide students with opportunities to access knowledge, cultivate self-reading and self-learning habits, promote a reading culture in schools, and adopt modern learning methods to enhance skills and critical thinking.
Launched in 2020, the "More Knowledge, Less Poverty" project has reached all 63 provinces and cities across the country, delivering practical and modern bookshelves and educational equipment. It is an ongoing annual initiative. The project not only supports students with improved infrastructure and access to modern learning methods aligned with the new education curriculum but also sows the seeds of knowledge and fosters the development of a high-quality workforce for the nation.
Part 1
Starting background of the project
Education and training have always been areas of focus for the Party, State, Government, and local authorities, with dedicated investment resources. However, resources are limited, while the demand for development continues to grow, requiring significant capital. This has resulted in considerable disparities in educational conditions and quality among regions, particularly in rural, disadvantaged, and remote areas.
In 2018, the Ministry of Education and Training introduced and implemented the new general education curriculum, which includes numerous requirements for learning methods and the application of technology in teaching and learning. These aim to enhance skills, emphasize practical application, and utilize knowledge to address problems in both learning and life. The curriculum is highly integrated at lower grades and gradually differentiated at higher grades, employing educational methods and activities that promote students' initiative and potential.
However, in many localities, especially in rural and remote areas, the conditions and resources for equipping educational infrastructure remain severely limited. This poses significant challenges to effectively implementing the new general education curriculum, impacting students' ability to learn and acquire knowledge—critical for the nation's future generation. To join efforts with the political system in providing additional resources for education, particularly in rural and remote areas, the "More Knowledge, Less Poverty" project was established to donate bookshelves and educational equipment.
Part 2
Project innovation/ invention
The direct beneficiaries of the project are students—the younger generation and future stewards of the nation. Agribank aims to continuously increase practical resources to build a solid foundation for the future generation, contributing to the sustainable development of the country and aspiring toward a strong and prosperous Vietnam.
During the implementation of the project, particularly during the complex developments of the Covid-19 pandemic across the country, Agribank actively responded to the Government's "Internet and Computers for Students" program. The bank assessed needs and promptly donated numerous modern learning devices with internet connectivity, enabling schools and students to carry out online learning without disruption, even during social distancing measures in many localities.
Additionally, there were heartwarming stories of students who lost their parents to the pandemic, students with disabilities, and those in extremely challenging circumstances who remained determined to study. Agribank provided timely support to these students, helping to ease their difficulties and giving them the strength to overcome adversity and rise above challenges in life.

Part 3
Goals and vision of the project
Objective:
The Vietnamese people have a long-standing tradition of valuing education, being diligent, hardworking, and creative. While each family and child starts from different circumstances, conditions, and foundations, reality shows that with proper investment in education and training, the future can be equal and full of opportunities for everyone. Despite limited access to modern learning methods, many students, driven by their capabilities and determination, have achieved remarkable academic success both nationally and internationally. Their innovative ideas, scientific contributions, and creative projects have brought practical benefits to society.
This serves as the motivation to persistently and sustainably implement the "More Knowledge, Less Poverty" project. Its mission is to "leave no one behind," ensuring that every student in Vietnam has equal access to education and knowledge. The project focuses on helping students, especially those in rural and remote areas, overcome challenges, excel in life, contribute to community development, and help build the nation.
Vision
Investing in the younger generation is investing in the future. Therefore, a consistent, long-term vision with sustainable resources and an emphasis on equality is essential to achieve impactful outcomes
Part 4
Implementation - Scope - Cost of the project
The "More Knowledge, Less Poverty" project, focused on providing bookshelves and educational equipment, has been implemented since 2020. It aims to support primary, secondary, and high schools in 63 provinces nationwide, prioritizing economically and socially disadvantaged areas with insufficient infrastructure. Various practical items have been donated, including: Computers and tablets; Books (textbooks, advanced materials, reference books, comics, etc.); Infrastructure (bookshelves, desks, chairs, lighting, fans, internet access)
Agribank conducts direct surveys to assess the needs of schools and students, ensuring that the support is aligned with real demands and meets the requirements of the new general education curriculum.
The project is launched annually at the beginning of the school year to promptly provide schools with necessary facilities. This ensures that students in disadvantaged and remote areas have opportunities to access new knowledge resources and modern learning tools, fostering equality in education.

Part 5
Achievements
The "More Knowledge, Less Poverty" project, which donates bookshelves and educational equipment, is an educational welfare initiative with a profoundly humanitarian message. It focuses on supporting the younger generation, particularly students in difficult circumstances in rural, remote, ethnic minority, border, and island areas across the country. The project provides opportunities for these students to access knowledge, foster self-reading and self-learning habits, nurture their souls, enhance skills and critical thinking, adopt modern learning methods, and integrate information technology into teaching and learning. It also contributes to developing a reading culture in schools, maintaining and expanding the habit of reading, and empowering students to overcome challenges and thrive in life.
In addition, the project supports schools in disadvantaged areas by improving their teaching and learning infrastructure. This effort contributes to advancing rural development, transforming the appearance of rural and remote areas nationwide.
Part 6
Model expansion potential
The mission of nation-building and development, particularly in the field of education and training, requires the collective effort of the entire political system and all citizens. Investing in education and the younger generation is an investment in sustainable development and the nation's future. Every organization and individual, based on their capacity, can find appropriate ways to support education and students.
The "More Knowledge, Less Poverty" project, which donates bookshelves and educational equipment, hopes to spread its humanitarian message and demonstrate practical, effective methods targeted at the right beneficiaries. The goal is to inspire the community to join efforts in investing in and caring for students in rural, remote, ethnic minority, border, and island areas. This will ensure equality in accessing knowledge and help bridge the educational quality gap between urban and rural areas.
